In The Know On Flow

A Note From Kevin Marsh

33Many of you are aware that over the past several years we've been transitioning our family of sewer flow sensors over to the new Hach FL900 Series Flow Logger platform. This transition has brought unprecedented reliability and flexibility to sewer flow monitoring programs across the US (and around the globe). I'm pleased to report that in addition to the non-contact FLO-DAR sensor and our line of submerged area-velocity probes, we've also recently completed the migration of our level-only ultrasonic sensors as well. This is particularly exciting for users of Hach Data Delivery Services (DDS) as we can now offer additional ways to expand your sewer flow monitoring capabilities in a very cost effective manner. While FLO-DAR will continue to be the workhorse at sites where accuracy and repeatability are paramount, supplementing the network with our look-down and/or in-pipe ultrasonic sensors will allow users to:

  • Add non-contact overflow alarms and notifications to CSO/SSO sites.
  • Capture non-contact flow data based on Manning's Equation
  • Incorporate and consolidate all your data through Hach's FSDATA Online Data Manager

All of this information can be found on our newly redesigned web site (make sure you check it out). We will also be showcasing these products next month at the WEF's Collections Systems 2014: Collection on the Chesapeake conference. I hope to see you there!

Until next month...

The Sigma 950 Flow Meter is all about flexibility.

fl900It starts with its full-range of sensor types for measuring flow velocity and/or level, including the Sigma Low Profile Velocity Sensor for shallow or fast flows and the Sigma Bubbler Level Sensor for harsh environments. Add in its ability to measure pH and temperature and you'll start to get a true sense for its flexibility. Then, to seal the deal, simply look at the multiple output options and you'll be a believer. The Sigma 950 communicates with a wide variety of devices and its built-in display and keypad allow for verification and programming right onsite. We think we've made our case, but we'll throw in this final flexibility bonus: the Sigma 950 can be used in either temporary or permanent locations with battery, AC, or even solar power options. Yeah, it's flexible.
