Mother Nature has been doing a good job of reminding us who's really in charge. This spring has been one of the most active on record for tornadoes and severe storms. I live in Kansas City, and am no stranger to severe weather. Strangely enough we Kansas Citians been largely spared the worst of the weather this year (so far). But like many of us, I have friends and loved ones all over the country and severe weather anywhere immediately makes me wonder who I know nearby and whether or not they are OK. The deadly tornadoes that recently struck much of the Southeast had me thinking about my industry colleagues in Huntsville, Alabama. I was relieved to hear that all are well despite being too close to much of the action.
We are in an industry that is very much involved in struggles with Mother Nature. The safe and effective conveyance and treatment of sewer flows does not play well with severe wet weather. Many of my customers find their sewer systems stressed by even modest amounts of wet weather. Imagine dealing with historic flooding like they are in Paducah, Kentucky where despite unprecedented rains they have still managed to keep their lift stations and treatment plants operating. I've bragged on technology here before but this of course is less about technology and much more about the hard work of municipal and utility workers as well as citizen volunteers. Thanks!
If you haven't heard my voice in a while and just can't wait any longer, please join me for a Data Delivery Services webcast next week. We'll discuss why now is the perfect time for Hach to manage your sewer flow metering program - leaving you and your staff more time and money for other things. Hope to see you there!
